About Hudson’s Bay Credit

Q. What’s the difference between the Hudson’s Bay MasterCard and the Hudson’s Bay Credit Card?

A. The Hudson’s Bay MasterCard® can be used everywhere MasterCard is accepted – and you can earn 2 Hudson’s Bay Rewards points for almost every dollar spent1. Plus, you’ll get a 25% bonus twice a year on all points earned outside of Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters. Your bonus is awarded in January and July based on the points you’ve earned in the previous six months and will appear on your credit statement.

The Hudson’s Bay Credit Card is only accepted at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters.

You can earn double the points at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters with either credit card. Simply present your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card at the time of your credit purchase.

Q. Do I need to present my Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card with my Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay Credit Card when making a purchase?

A. Yes, at this time you must present your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card with your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay Credit Card to earn Hudson’s Bay Rewards points when making purchases at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters. When you use your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard outside of these stores, your points will automatically accumulate and you won’t need to present your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card.

Q. What’s the annual interest rate for each card?

A. The no annual fee Hudson’s Bay MasterCard has an initial annual interest rate of 29.9%. You can lower your interest rate to Prime plus 17% after your first purchase or cash advance (excluding Quick Cash) outside of Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com or Home Outfitters – if your account is in good standing (not past due, over limit, fraudulent or restricted) and you don’t return your purchase in that billing cycle. The lower rate will apply to all your future purchases and cash advances as long as your account remains in good standing. Our Prime rate is based on the Canadian Prime rate as published in The Globe and Mail on the last Friday of the month preceding your billing cycle.

The no annual fee Hudson’s Bay Credit Card has an annual interest rate of 29.9%.

Q. Do these cards come with a grace period?

About Hudson’s Bay Rewards

Q. How do I qualify for the different Rewards tiers?

A. To be promoted to a higher tier, you must:

  • Make at least 2 purchase visits to Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com or Home Outfitters in a calendar year (January 1 to December 31).
  • Use your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card when making your purchase.
  • Meet each tier’s annual net purchase total (purchases before taxes and net of any returns at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters). Rewards Plus: $400-$1,199.99; Rewards VIP: $1,200 or more.

(You’ll receive a special Rewards VIP Card within four to six weeks after qualifying for Rewards VIP status.)

Q. What counts as a purchase visit?

A. Here are some examples of how a purchase visit is defined:

  • Multiple purchases made in the same store on the same date count as 1 purchase visit.
  • Purchases made in 2 different stores on the same date count as 2 purchase visits.
  • Purchases made in the same store on 2 different dates count as 2 purchase visits.
  • A purchase made in a store and a purchase made online on the same date count as 2 purchase visits.

(Remember, you’ll need to present your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card for your purchase to count as a visit.)

See the Hudson’s Bay Rewards website for full terms and conditions.

Q. How will I know if I am a Rewards, Rewards Plus or Rewards VIP member?

A. You can check your tier (Rewards, Rewards Plus or Rewards VIP) on your sales receipt or by logging in to the Hudson’s Bay Rewards website.

Q. If I’m in the Rewards Plus or Rewards VIP tier, can my status change to a lower tier?

A. Yes, your status will change:

  • If you make a return that causes your annual net purchase total to drop below the amount specified for your tier – for example, if you spend $450 within a calendar year, you would qualify for Rewards Plus status. However, if you then make a return of $300 within that same year and your annual net purchase total is reduced to $150, you would no longer be considered a Rewards Plus member.
  • At the end of each calendar year – for example, if you’re a Rewards Plus member on December 31, your status will return to the base Rewards tier on January 1. Your Hudson’s Bay Rewards status is not permanent and you must requalify for Rewards Plus and/or Rewards VIP status by meeting the minimum in-store spend requirements between January 1 and December 31 of each calendar year. When the term of your tier comes to an end, you’ll still get to enjoy some of the benefits of your tier for one more year – visit www.newrewards.ca to view these benefits in the “Savings and exclusive access” section of the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program chart.
Q. How can I earn more points at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters?

A. You can double your points when you use your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard or Hudson’s Bay Credit Card with your Hudson’s Bay Rewards Card at Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters. That means you can earn up to 4 points per $1 with the Rewards VIP tier. Click here to learn more about our Rewards tiers.

A. When you use your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard outside of Hudson’s Bay, thebay.com and Home Outfitters, you get 2 points for almost every $1 you spend and a 25% bonus twice a year on those points. (The 25% bonus will appear on your credit statement in January and July, and is calculated based on the total points you’ve earned in the previous six months.)

About Chip and PIN Technology

Q. What is chip and PIN (Personal Identification Number) technology?

A. The Hudson’s Bay MasterCard is enabled with chip technology and can be used everywhere MasterCard is accepted. The microchip is embedded in the card so that the card is extremely difficult to replicate.

Q. How is a chip card used?

A. Please follow these steps:

  • Insert your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard into the chip terminal.
  • Enter your PIN, then leave your card in the terminal while your transaction is processing.
  • Remove your card from the terminal once your transaction is completely processed and obtain the receipt.

Note: Your PIN replaces your signature at chip-enabled merchants.

Q. How do I make a purchase from merchants that don’t have chip and PIN technology?

A. The chip card will also have a magnetic stripe. Merchants without chip technology will swipe the card and then you will sign the receipt.

Q. Is using the magnetic stripe still safe?

A. It continues to be a safe option; however, chip technology provides a more advanced form of security. Your Hudson’s Bay MasterCard also comes with Zero Liability, which means that you’ll be reimbursed for any unauthorized transactions made on your account, as long as you keep your account in good standing, you have exercised reasonable care in safeguarding your card, and you have not reported two or more unauthorized events in the past 12 months. For complete details, please see your Hudson’s Bay Account Agreement.

Q. How do I set up my PIN?

A. You can choose and change your PIN at any time by calling us at 1-866-640-7858 from your primary/home phone and following the prompts.

Q. How do I choose a PIN?

A. Choose a PIN that’s easy for you to remember but difficult for others to figure out. Avoid numbers that are linked to your personal information (e.g., birthdays, phone numbers). Never disclose your PIN to anyone, and ensure that people can’t see the numbers as you’re entering your PIN.

Q. What do I do if I suspect that someone else knows my PIN?

A. Change your PIN immediately if you suspect that someone else knows your number, or if your card is lost or stolen.

Q. Is there an additional fee related to having a chip-enabled Hudson’s Bay MasterCard?

A. No, there’s no additional fee to receive a chip card or to use it.
